Product Overview
If muzzle speed is what you are shopping for, Hornady's BLACK 150-grain InterLock starts faster than any other load it is compared with, at 2,500 fps. It uses Hornady's InterLock, a jacketed soft-point hunting bullet, and it leaves the barrel with 2,082 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Winchester's Deer Season XP 150-grain, which has a polymer-tipped Extreme Point bullet of the same weight, the BLACK leaves the muzzle 175 fps faster with 282 ft-lbs more energy. That extra speed comes with more kick: the BLACK recoils about 8 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Hornady's American Whitetail 170-grain InterLock, the BLACK carries a lighter bullet but starts 300 fps faster with 255 ft-lbs more energy, and it kicks about 11 percent less in the same rifle.
Buy the BLACK 150-grain if muzzle speed and energy matter most to you and you want a soft point. Pick the Deer Season XP 150-grain if you want lighter recoil at the same bullet weight; Winchester says it engineered it for deer hunters. Pick the American Whitetail 170-grain if you want a heavier bullet; Hornady markets it for deer and other medium game. If you need a subsonic load instead, Hornady's Subsonic 250-grain Sub-X leaves the muzzle at 1,050 fps.
