What We Publish

The news desk covers ammunition, firearms, suppressors and the laws around them: product launches and specification changes, standards, recalls, notices from ATF and state agencies, bills and court rulings, and industry news such as acquisitions and production changes. A story runs when there is a primary document behind it: a maker's product page or press release, an agency letter, a court opinion, a filing, a published dataset. When a company has published nothing, a story may run on the reporting of at least two outlets with a named person or document on the record; that story says in its first sentence who said what. A forum post, a dealer's social post, a rumor with nobody named or a single repost is a lead, not a source.

How Stories Are Made

Research and drafting use software assistance. Every figure is checked against the primary document before publication and the source list on each story is the record. Corrections are logged with dates.

Every number, date, name, price and quotation in a story is tied to a source, and the sources are listed at the foot of the story with the date they were read. A price in a story is the maker's published MSRP or list price, cited to the maker's own page; the desk does not quote street prices or its own price tracking in news. Where a maker or agency has not published a figure, the story says so rather than estimating it.

Stories link to the documents they rely on and to nothing else. They carry no links to AmmoSight's price, product or caliber pages and no mention of the site's data; where the site has a related page it appears as a labelled card below the story, outside the text, so an editor elsewhere can quote or link the story as a plain account of the record.

The Byline

John James writes the AmmoSight news desk: the day's ammunition and firearms news, from launches and prices to recalls and industry moves.

Updates and Corrections

A story whose facts change after publication is marked Updated and carries a dated note saying what changed in its Updates list. A fix that changes no fact, such as a typo or a dead link, is recorded in the desk's log but not announced. A story that should not have run is retracted and its address returns a not-found page.

To report an error, write to news@ammosight.com with the story's address and the document that shows the correct figure.

Images

Photographs are a maker's or agency's own press images, used with credit and a link to where they were published, or AmmoSight's own charts and photographs. When a story has no such image, it carries a stock photograph published under a Creative Commons or public-domain license, credited to the photographer with the license named. The desk does not publish generated imagery.

Independence and Samples

No story is paid for. Brands may send review samples through the news desk contact page; a sample does not guarantee coverage or a positive review, the brand sees nothing before publication, and any review of a sample says the product was provided at no charge. Some dealer links on AmmoSight are affiliate links, which the terms describe; they do not affect what the desk covers or what it says.
