Product Overview
Weatherby's Select 180-grain InterLock is a plain soft-point hunting load at full .300 Weatherby speed. The InterLock is Hornady's cup-and-core soft point, with a ring inside the jacket that locks the lead core in place. It is rated at a G1 BC of .425 and leaves the muzzle at 3,240 fps, one of the fastest 180-grain starts in the caliber. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 9 inches at 300 yards.
Compared with Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain TTSX, the InterLock starts at nearly the same speed but slows sooner. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the InterLock about 18 inches sideways and the TTSX about 16. The TTSX also carries 2,087 ft-lbs at 500 yards against 1,890 for the InterLock, and in the same rifle the two kick almost the same. Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond, the InterLock leaves the muzzle 65 fps faster and drops about the same: zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 40 inches at 500 and the AccuBond about 39. The same wind pushes the AccuBond about 15 inches.
Buy the Select InterLock if you want a plain soft point at full speed and most of your shots fall inside 300 yards, where the TTSX and the Nosler AccuBond gain little on it. Pick Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain TTSX if you want a copper bullet with no lead core, or if your shots may stretch past 400 yards. Pick Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond if wind is your main worry. If you want a plain soft point with a little less recoil, Remington's Core-Lokt 180-grain PSP kicks about 4 percent less in the same rifle.
- Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 21 inches at 400, the same as Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond
- Leaves the muzzle 120 fps faster than Remington's Core-Lokt 180-grain PSP
- Leaves the muzzle within 10 fps of Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain Ballistic Tip, at 3,240 fps against 3,250
- At 400 yards, a 10 mph crosswind pushes it about 11 inches, against about 9 for Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond
- Rated at a G1 BC of .425, against .484 for Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain TTSX
- Carries 1,890 ft-lbs at 500 yards, against 2,073 for Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond
