How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 8" vital zone, ±4" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 500 yards.

Product Overview

Remington's Core-Lokt 180-grain PSP is a traditional soft-point hunting load, and it kicks the least of the 180-grain .300 Weatherby loads. The Core-Lokt is Remington's pointed soft point, a lead-core bullet with an exposed soft nose. It leaves the muzzle at 3,120 fps with 3,890 ft-lbs of energy, a little behind the Weatherby-loaded 180s in exchange for that lighter recoil.

Compared with Weatherby's Select 180-grain InterLock, another plain soft point, the Core-Lokt starts 120 fps slower and carries 305 ft-lbs less energy at the muzzle. Speed is the main difference between the two. Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond, a polymer-tipped bullet with a bonded core, the gap is smaller: the Core-Lokt starts 55 fps slower and kicks about 2 percent less in the same rifle.

Buy the Core-Lokt if you want a plain soft point with the least recoil of any 180-grain load in the caliber and a little less speed does not bother you. Pick Weatherby's Select 180-grain InterLock if you want the same kind of bullet with a faster start. Pick Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond if you want a polymer tip and a bonded core. Pick Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain TTSX if you want a copper bullet with no lead core; it leaves the muzzle at 3,232 fps.

Strengths
  • Kicks about 4 percent less than Weatherby's Select 180-grain InterLock in the same rifle
  • Kicks about 5 percent less than Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain AccuBond in the same rifle
  • Its 3,890 ft-lbs at the muzzle is within 138 of Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond
Limitations
  • Leaves the muzzle 112 fps slower than Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain TTSX
  • Carries 333 ft-lbs less at the muzzle than Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain AccuBond
  • Uses an exposed soft nose, where Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain TTSX is polymer-tipped
