How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 8" vital zone, ±4" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 500 yards.

Product Overview

Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain TTSX is the .300 Weatherby load for hunters who want a copper bullet with no lead core. The TTSX is Barnes' polymer-tipped copper bullet, rated at a G1 BC of .484. It leaves the muzzle at 3,232 fps and still carries 2,087 ft-lbs of energy at 500 yards.

Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond, the TTSX starts 57 fps faster and the two fly almost the same path. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the TTSX about 16 inches sideways and the AccuBond about 15. Zeroed at 100 yards, the TTSX drops about 38 inches at 500 and the AccuBond about 39. Compared with Weatherby's Select 180-grain InterLock, the TTSX starts at nearly the same speed and holds it better: the same wind pushes the InterLock about 18 inches at 500 yards, and it carries 1,890 ft-lbs there. In the same rifle the TTSX and the InterLock kick almost the same.

Buy the TTSX if you want a copper bullet with no lead core and your shots may stretch to 500 yards. Pick Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond if a lead core is fine; it drifts about the same with a little less recoil. Pick Weatherby's Select 180-grain InterLock if you want a plain soft point and most of your shots fall inside 300 yards. For a polymer tip on a lead core, Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain Ballistic Tip leaves the muzzle at 3,250 fps.

Strengths
  • At 400 yards, a 10 mph crosswind pushes it about 10 inches, against about 11 for Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain SP
  • Zeroed at 200 yards, it drops about 32 inches at 500, against about 34 for Weatherby's Select 180-grain InterLock
  • Carries 147 ft-lbs more at the muzzle than Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond
Limitations
  • Rated at a G1 BC of .484, against .507 for Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond
  • Kicks about 2 percent more than Nosler's Trophy Grade 180-grain AccuBond in the same rifle
  • Leaves the muzzle 18 fps slower than Weatherby's Select Plus 180-grain AccuBond
