Product Overview
Remington markets its Core-Lokt 140-grain PSP for big game. The bullet is Remington's Pointed Soft Point Core-Lokt, a copper-jacketed lead bullet with exposed lead at its pointed tip. Remington rates it at a G1 BC of .435, and it leaves the muzzle at 2,750 fps. The reason to choose it is a heavy 140-grain bullet in a plain, traditional soft point design.
Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 130-grain AccuBond, the Core-Lokt starts 50 fps faster, and the two land in the same place: zeroed at 100 yards, each drops about 58 inches at 500 yards. Wind separates them. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing straight across the range pushes the Core-Lokt about 23 inches sideways and the AccuBond about 20. The heavier Core-Lokt also kicks about 18 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Hornady's Superformance SST, the Core-Lokt starts 180 fps slower. From the same zero the SST drops about 48 inches at 500 yards, and the same wind pushes it about 18 inches.
Buy the Core-Lokt if you hunt big game, as Remington intends, and want a 140-grain bullet that drops no more than the AccuBond out to 500 yards. Pick the AccuBond if you want a bonded, polymer-tipped bullet with the same drop and lighter recoil. Pick the Superformance SST if your shots run long and wind is the bigger worry. Hornady's Precision Hunter 143-grain ELD-X is the heavier choice, with a polymer tip in place of exposed lead.
- At 300 yards it carries about 1,450 ft-lbs, against about 1,366 for Nosler's Trophy Grade 130-grain AccuBond
- Leaves the muzzle 50 fps faster than Hornady's Precision Hunter 143-grain ELD-X, with about 2 percent less recoil in the same rifle
- Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 32 inches at 400 yards, the same as the Nosler AccuBond
- A steady 10 mph crosswind pushes it about 14 inches at 400 yards, against about 11 for Hornady's Superformance SST
- Starts 150 fps slower than DoubleTap's 130-grain Swift Scirocco II and kicks about 9 percent more in the same rifle
- Starts 125 fps slower than HSM Trophy Gold 130-grain Berger VLD
