How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 8" vital zone, ±4" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 500 yards.

Product Overview

HSM's Trophy Gold 130-grain load is built on Berger's VLD Hunting bullet, a boat-tail hunting bullet with a long, pointed nose. It leaves the muzzle at 2,875 fps with 2,386 ft-lbs of energy. Buyers choose it for the Berger bullet, and it sits close to the other 130-grain hunting loads in speed and recoil.

Compared with Hornady's Superformance 129-grain SST, the Trophy Gold starts 55 fps slower and carries 73 ft-lbs less energy at the muzzle, while the two kick almost exactly alike in the same rifle. Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 130-grain AccuBond, it starts 175 fps faster, and the AccuBond kicks about 7 percent less in the same rifle.

Buy the Trophy Gold if you want Berger's VLD Hunting bullet in .260 Remington without loading it yourself. Pick the Superformance SST if you want a quicker start with no extra recoil. Pick HSM's own 129-grain Hornady SP if you want HSM's loading with a soft point at nearly the same speed. Pick the AccuBond if light recoil matters most and you want a bonded, polymer-tipped bullet. DoubleTap's 127-grain Barnes LRX is the pick if you want a lead-free copper bullet. For range practice at the same bullet weight, Hornady's Match 130-grain ELD Match is a target load that starts 35 fps slower.

Strengths
  • Carries 282 ft-lbs more at the muzzle than Nosler's Trophy Grade 130-grain AccuBond
  • Kicks about 1 percent less than DoubleTap's 130-grain Swift Scirocco II at the same bullet weight
  • Within 25 fps of HSM's own 129-grain Hornady SP at the muzzle, with Berger's VLD Hunting bullet in place of a soft point
Limitations
  • DoubleTap's 127-grain Barnes LRX starts 125 fps faster and carries 153 ft-lbs more at the muzzle
  • DoubleTap's 130-grain Swift Scirocco II carries 41 ft-lbs more at the muzzle at the same bullet weight
  • Kicks about 7 percent more than Nosler's Trophy Grade 130-grain AccuBond in the same rifle
