DoubleTap markets its 127-grain Barnes LRX load for deer, hogs, antelope and bear. The LRX is Barnes's copper bullet with a polymer tip and no lead core, and DoubleTap starts it at 3,000 fps with 2,539 ft-lbs of energy. It is the load for hunters who need a lead-free bullet and want a fast one.
Compared with Hornady's Superformance 129-grain SST, a polymer-tipped bullet with a lead core, the LRX starts 70 fps faster, and the two kick about the same in the same rifle. Compared with Nosler's Trophy Grade 130-grain AccuBond, a bonded-core bullet with a polymer tip, the LRX starts 300 fps faster and leaves the muzzle with 435 ft-lbs more energy. Both of those bullets have lead cores, so neither suits a hunt where a lead-free bullet is required.
Buy the LRX if you need a lead-free bullet and want the fastest start of the three. Pick the Superformance SST if you don't need copper; Hornady markets it for medium game, and it kicks about the same as the LRX. Pick the Trophy Grade AccuBond if softer recoil matters more than speed; Nosler markets it for deer-sized game. Pick DoubleTap's 130-grain Swift Scirocco II if you want a polymer-tipped bullet with a bonded lead core from the same maker. For practice on paper and steel, Hornady markets its 130-grain ELD Match as a target load; it starts 160 fps slower than the LRX.
