Product Overview

The DoubleTap .260 Remington fires a 127-grain Barnes LRX at 2900 feet per second, delivering 2372 foot-pounds of muzzle energy. The LRX represents Barnes' long-range evolution of their X-Bullet line, featuring a more streamlined profile than the TTSX for improved aerodynamics at distance. The 0.468 G1 ballistic coefficient makes this one of the highest-BC lead-free hunting bullets available in 6.5mm calibers.

Barnes engineered the LRX with a longer, more aggressive ogive than the standard TTSX while maintaining the proven solid copper construction. The bullet still expands into four petals upon impact, creating substantial wound channels while retaining virtually all its mass. The higher BC means less wind drift and better energy retention at the distances where lead-free bullets typically struggle due to lower sectional density.

Long-range hunters who need lead-free performance will find the LRX extends their effective range compared to shorter copper bullets. The improved aerodynamics make 400-yard shots more practical where traditional monolithic projectiles would suffer excessive drift. This load works well for western hunters pursuing mule deer and elk across open terrain while meeting non-toxic ammunition requirements. The deep penetration handles the heavier game that longer shots often present.

Strengths
  • The 0.468 BC significantly outperforms the 120-grain TTSX at 0.412, making this better suited for long-range hunting
  • Solid copper construction provides nearly 100% weight retention through bone and heavy tissue
  • DoubleTap loading achieves 2900 fps—extracting maximum velocity from the .260 Remington case
  • Lead-free design meets California requirements while delivering genuine long-range capability
Limitations
  • The BC still falls behind conventional lead-core bullets like the AccuBond at 0.488
  • Copper bullets require minimum impact velocities around 1800 fps to expand—the LRX extends this range but doesn't eliminate it
  • DoubleTap ammunition has more limited distribution than major manufacturers
  • The specialized long-range copper design commands premium pricing
