.300 Blackout was built for short barrels and suppressors, and in an AR it uses the same bolt and magazines as 5.56. Decide if you will shoot supersonic or subsonic ammo, since subsonic loads need a gas system set up to cycle them, especially suppressed. Short-barreled guns like the Sig Sauer MCX Rattler are compact but fall under pistol or NFA rules, so check your local laws.
