About This Firearm

The B&T APC300 SD is an integrally suppressed gas-piston .300 Blackout built for suppressed hunting and suppressed range work. Its suppressor is a reflex unit, with the body wrapped back over the 8.7 inch barrel, which is how a suppressed rifle still measures 35 inches. The handguard shrouds that assembly, so nothing projects off the front to snag on a pack strap.

Flip-up polymer sights come on it and one 30-round magazine is in the box. The MBT stock telescopes and folds to the side, and the handguard is a quick-change part. The barrel has no threads, since the suppressor is part of the assembly.

If you're cross-shopping, the Daniel Defense DDM4 ISR also builds the suppressor in, around a 9 inch barrel, and comes to 34.75 inches and 7.57 lbs against the B&T's 6.8 lbs. The CMMG Suppressed ZEROED Banshee Mk4 SBR instead ships with a screw-on can, which puts it at 29.5 inches and 6.4 lbs and leaves the can free to move to another host.

Best For

GOOD
Suppressed Hunting
The 1:5 twist is a fast rate cut for the long heavy bullets subsonic .300 Blackout loads use. Because the suppressor is part of the gun, there is nothing to thread on in the dark and nothing that can shift a zero between outings.
GOOD
Suppressed Range Work
The handguard is M-LOK compatible, so a light, a hand stop or a bipod mounts without a rail adapter. The trigger is a two-stage, which gives a first stage to take up before the break on slow deliberate strings.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • The controls are ambidextrous, so the safety and the magazine release both work from the support side.
  • A short-stroke gas piston vents at the block, which keeps part of a suppressed gun's back pressure out of the upper receiver.
  • The aluminum receiver is anodized, so the surface is a conversion layer in the metal and not a coating sitting on top of it.
Limitations
  • The suppressor belongs to this rifle, so it cannot be moved to a second host and the gun has no shorter configuration.
  • The sights are polymer flip-ups, which makes them a backup set and not a hard-use iron sight.
  • Nothing beyond the magazine comes in the box, so a sling, a case and cleaning gear are separate purchases.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you clean the bore on an integrally suppressed rifle?

Work from the chamber forward, because the suppressor body sits over the barrel and there is no open muzzle to feed a rod into. Carbon collects in the suppressor as well as the bore, so the rod has to pass through both.

How does this differ from the APC300 SD pistol?

B&T builds the same integrally suppressed upper as a pistol as well. This is the stocked version, with the MBT tele-folding stock on the back of it.

What does a 1:5 twist rate mean in practice?

The rifling makes one full turn in five inches of barrel. On a barrel this short that is quick enough to put a complete rotation on the bullet before it leaves the gun, which is the point of a rate this fast.
