The 6mm ARC is an AR-15 cartridge for long-range target shooting and deer, which Hornady introduced in 2020 at the request of a US Department of Defense group. It necks the 6.5 Grendel case down to a .243" bullet. An AR-15 conversion takes a new barrel, a Grendel-size bolt and Grendel-type magazines, and the spec twist is 1:7.5.
The loads here run from 75 to 108gr at 2,750 to 3,100 fps. For steel and gas-gun matches, use the 105gr BTHP or 108gr ELD Match. For deer, Hornady's 103gr ELD-X Precision Hunter is the hunting load on this page. The 75gr V-Max and 80gr ELD-VT at 3,000 to 3,100 fps are varmint loads. Standard 5.56 magazines won't feed it reliably, so buy magazines made for the Grendel or ARC.

Advantages and Disadvantages
Pros
- Against 6.5 Grendel: 105 to 108gr 6mm bullets start faster with high BC, so they drop and drift less at distance.
- Against .224 Valkyrie: a 103gr hunting bullet gives deer hunters more weight in an AR-15.
- It shares the Grendel bolt and magazines, so a Grendel owner needs only a barrel.
- Recoil is light enough in an AR-15 to spot your own hits.
Cons
- It needs a Grendel-size bolt and magazines; 5.56 parts won't work.
- Against 6.5 Grendel for hogs at short range: 123gr Grendel bullets carry more weight.
- Against 6mm Creedmoor in an AR-10: about 200 fps slower with the same bullets.
- A 1:8 or slower barrel won't suit the heavy match bullets the cartridge is built around.
