Product Overview
HSM's 75-grain V-MAX load is for shooters who want a fast start and little recoil. The bullet is Hornady's V-MAX, a light polymer-tipped bullet, and HSM loads it to leave the muzzle at 3,100 fps. The light bullet is where both the speed and the low recoil come from.
Compared with Hornady's V-Match 80-grain ELD-VT, the V-MAX load carries a bullet 5 grains lighter and leaves the muzzle 100 fps faster. The two start with nearly the same energy, 1,601 ft-lbs for the V-MAX and 1,599 for the V-Match, because the V-MAX's extra speed just makes up for its lighter bullet. The lighter bullet also kicks about 9 percent less in the same rifle, which adds up over a long session at the range. Both use polymer-tipped Hornady bullets.
Buy the V-MAX if you want more speed and less recoil than the V-Match gives, with nearly the same energy at the muzzle. Pick Hornady's V-Match 80-grain ELD-VT if you want a slightly heavier bullet in a load Hornady markets for target and match shooting. Pick HSM's Tipping Point 95-grain SST if you hunt: HSM markets it for small to medium-sized game, and its heavier bullet leaves the muzzle with 1,918 ft-lbs, 317 more than the V-MAX. Expect more recoil from it; the V-MAX kicks about 36 percent less.
