Product Overview
Remington markets its 300-grain SJHP, from the High Performance Rifle line, for big game. The bullet is a semi-jacketed hollow point: the copper jacket stops short of the nose and leaves lead showing around the hollow point. It carries a G1 BC of .213 and leaves the muzzle at 1,900 fps.
Compared with Federal's Fusion 300-grain SP, the Remington starts 50 fps faster, but the Fusion holds its speed better. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Remington drops about 13 inches at 200 and the Fusion about 12, and at 200 yards the Fusion carries 1,308 ft-lbs to the Remington's 1,133. The Remington also kicks about 2 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Fiocchi's 300-grain HPFN, the Remington matches it on speed, G1 BC and path, so the choice comes down to bullet style: a semi-jacketed hollow point against a hollow point with a flat nose.
Buy the Remington if you want a lead-core hollow point for big game and take most shots inside 200 yards. Pick the Fusion SP if your shots may stretch to 200 yards, where it drops less and keeps more energy. Pick the Fiocchi HPFN if you prefer a flat-nose hollow point; it flies the same path. If recoil matters most, Grizzly's 300-grain JHP, which Grizzly markets for deer and elk, starts at 1,500 fps and kicks about 18 percent less in the same rifle.
