Product Overview
Winchester calls its Super-X 180-grain Power-Point ideal for hunters and sport shooters. The Power-Point is Winchester's jacketed soft-point bullet, and in this load it leaves the muzzle at 2,100 fps with 1,762 ft-lbs of energy. It is a heavy bullet at a moderate speed, and the loads it is most often weighed against are other soft points of similar weight.
Compared with Federal's Power-Shok 180-grain SP, the Super-X is a twin at the muzzle: the same bullet weight, the same 2,100 fps and the same 1,762 ft-lbs, and the two kick the same in the same rifle. Compared with Hornady's American Whitetail 170-grain InterLock, the Super-X gives up 100 fps and 65 ft-lbs at the muzzle in exchange for 10 more grains of bullet. It also kicks about 7 percent harder than the Hornady in the same rifle.
Buy the Super-X 180-grain if you want a heavy Winchester soft point for hunting. Pick the Power-Shok 180-grain if you want the same weight and muzzle speed in a load Federal markets for big game. Pick the American Whitetail 170-grain if you want a quicker start and a little less recoil; Hornady markets it for deer. For a polymer-tipped bullet, Hornady's Custom 165-grain FTX leaves the muzzle 100 fps faster and kicks about 12 percent less.
