How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 8" vital zone, ±4" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 500 yards.

Product Overview

Lapua's Scenar 136-grain HPBT is a target load built around Lapua's Scenar-L bullet. The Scenar-L is an open-tip match bullet with a boat tail, rated at a G1 BC of .545, and this load starts it at 2,671 fps, the slowest start of the .260 Remington match loads on this site. At 136 grains it sits between the 130-grain match loads and Berger's 140.

Compared with Berger's Match Grade 140-grain Hybrid Target, the nearest load in bullet weight, the Lapua starts 118 fps slower and falls further behind with distance. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing straight across the range pushes the Lapua about 18 inches sideways and the Berger about 15. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Lapua drops about 58 inches at 500 and the Berger about 50. Compared with Hornady's 130-grain ELD Match, the Lapua kicks about the same in the same rifle but starts 169 fps slower, and the same wind pushes the Hornady about 16 inches at 500.

Buy the Lapua if you want Lapua's Scenar-L bullet for paper and steel at 300 yards and closer, where its gap to the faster match loads is small. Pick the Berger 140 if you shoot mostly at 400 and 500 yards and don't mind more recoil. Pick Hornady's 130-grain ELD Match if you want less drift and drop at the same recoil. For hunting, Remington's Core-Lokt 140-grain PSP is a pointed soft point that Remington markets for big game; it starts 79 fps faster.

Strengths
  • Kicks about 10 percent less than the Berger Match Grade 140-grain Hybrid Target in the same rifle
  • At 200 yards it drops about 4 inches from a 100-yard zero, within an inch of the Hornady 130-grain ELD Match
  • At 300 yards a 10 mph crosswind pushes it about 6 inches, within an inch of the Berger Match Grade 130-grain OTM Tactical
Limitations
  • Leaves the muzzle 229 fps slower than the Nosler Match Grade 130-grain RDF
  • Drifts about 2 inches more than the Berger Match Grade 130-grain OTM Tactical at 500 yards in a 10 mph crosswind
  • Slows to 1,916 fps at 500 yards, about 170 fps less than the Berger Match Grade 140-grain Hybrid Target
