Magtech's 180-grain FMJ flat nose leaves the muzzle at 990 fps with 392 ft-lbs of energy, a power factor of 178 and 13 points of margin over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.8 inches low at 50 yards, still carrying 943 fps and 355 ft-lbs, and 13.0 inches low at 100 yards at 902 fps and 326 ft-lbs.
Remington UMC .40 S&W matches it number for number at the muzzle: 990 fps, 392 ft-lbs, power factor 178 and identical recoil in the same pistol. Speer Lawman 180-grain TMJ starts 10 fps faster at 1,000 fps, but the Magtech passes it by 50 yards, 943 fps to 938, and leads by 15 fps and 11 ft-lbs at 100 with the same 13.0 inches of drop. Sellier & Bellot's 180-grain starts 22 fps and 18 ft-lbs behind at 968 fps and is 16 fps, 12 ft-lbs and 0.6 inch of drop behind at 100 yards. For indoor ranges that ban exposed lead, Speer Lawman 180-grain TMJ fully encloses its bullet at 1,000 fps. If your range allows lead, HSM Training 180-grain RNFP is 5 fps slower with recoil within 1 percent of the Magtech.
