Product Overview
Sellier & Bellot's 180-grain FMJ is the softest load in its comparison set: 968 fps, 374 ft-lbs, power factor 174, still 9 points over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.9 inches low at 50 yards at 924 fps and 341 ft-lbs, and 13.6 inches low at 100 at 886 fps and 314 ft-lbs.
Aguila's 180-grain ammunition is the far end of the set: 1,050 fps and 441 ft-lbs, 82 fps and 67 ft-lbs ahead, and in the same pistol the S&B produces about 13 percent less recoil energy than it. Federal American Eagle and Federal Range and Target both run 1,000 fps and 400 ft-lbs, 32 fps and 26 ft-lbs up on the S&B, and the S&B produces about 5 percent less recoil energy than either. Buy this if a 180-grain .40 S&W in a compact pistol feels sharp and you want the mildest full-major load in the set. If you want practice ammunition that matches a full-power 180-grain carry load, Aguila's 1,050 fps is the closer stand-in. HSM's Training 180-grain lead RNFP sits 17 fps above the S&B at 985 fps with about 3 percent more recoil energy.
