Magtech loads its 10mm Auto 180-grain full metal jacket to 1,230 fps, for 605 ft-lbs at the muzzle and a power factor of 221, 56 points over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 1.1 inches low at 50 yards and 8.5 inches low at 100. It is still supersonic at 50 yards, at 1,129 fps, and just under the speed of sound by 100, arriving at 1,054 fps with 444 ft-lbs. Only Winchester USA Ready FN produces more recoil energy among the 180-grain ball loads here, by about 3 percent in the same pistol.

That puts the Magtech near the top of the 180-grain spread. Winchester USA Ready is 20 fps faster. DoubleTap Target trails by 45 fps with about 6 percent less recoil energy. Remington UMC and HSM Training both run 1,150 fps, 80 fps behind, with about 11 percent less recoil. The downloaded loads sit further back: Winchester USA gives up 150 fps and about 20 percent of the recoil energy, Federal American Eagle 200 fps and 26 percent, and Armscor 222 fps and 29 percent. Drop at 50 yards is 1.1 inches against 1.7 for American Eagle; at 100 the gap is 3.6 inches.

Buy this if you carry a full-power 10mm and want practice ammunition that recoils like it, or for USPSA major with a wide margin. It also suits steel, arriving at 100 yards with 39 ft-lbs more than Remington UMC. If your carry load is the Remington Golden Saber 180-grain BJHP at 1,150 fps, Remington UMC or HSM Training match its velocity exactly and are the closer stand-in. New 10mm shooters should look at Federal American Eagle instead, which makes major at a power factor of 185 with 181 ft-lbs less muzzle energy.
