HSM's Training load lists a 180-grain full metal jacket at 1,150 fps and 529 ft-lbs, which is a power factor of 207, 42 points over the 165 USPSA major floor. From a 25-yard zero it is 1.3 inches low at 50 yards and 9.7 inches low at 100. It leaves the muzzle 25 fps above the speed of sound. The recoil estimate in the same pistol is identical to Remington UMC, which lists the same velocity.
Within the 10mm Auto 180-grain ball loads compared here, it sits between the downloaded Winchester USA and the full-power Magtech. Remington UMC is the same load on paper, 1,150 fps and 528 ft-lbs, one ft-lb apart. Magtech is 80 fps faster at 1,230 fps. Winchester USA is 70 fps slower at 1,080 fps and produces about 10 percent less recoil energy in the same pistol. All three of the others make major as well, so what separates them is recoil and muzzle energy, not eligibility.
Buy this for practice against a carry load in the 1,150 fps class: the Remington Golden Saber 180-grain BJHP lists exactly 1,150 fps, so this load and Remington UMC are the closest recoil match to it on the site. It is also the middle-of-the-spread choice for a shooter who wants more than the downloaded loads without the top-end recoil. A shooter who wants the full-power feel should go to Magtech at 1,230 fps and 605 ft-lbs. A shooter who wants a softer session should go to Winchester USA at 1,080 fps and 466 ft-lbs.
