Product Overview
Weatherby describes its Select Plus 150-grain Swift Scirocco as designed for hunting and long-range efficiency. It uses Swift's Scirocco II, a bonded, polymer-tipped hunting bullet, rated at a G1 BC of .515, and it leaves the muzzle at 3,050 fps. Its 150-grain bullet keeps recoil down, which is the main reason to choose it.
Compared with Fiocchi's Hyperformance 150-grain TTSX, the Scirocco starts 50 fps slower and kicks about the same, but it holds up better downrange. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing straight across the range pushes the Scirocco about 16 inches sideways and the TTSX about 19. Compared with Federal's Terminal Ascent 170-grain, which starts 100 fps slower, the Scirocco drops about the same at 500 yards from a 100-yard zero, but the same wind pushes the heavier Terminal Ascent only about 13 inches. The Terminal Ascent also kicks about 24 percent harder in the same rifle.
Buy the Select Plus 150 if recoil matters to you and you want a bonded, tipped hunting bullet. Pick the Terminal Ascent if you hunt open country where wind is the bigger problem and you can live with more recoil. Pick the Fiocchi TTSX if you need a bullet with no lead core. If wind drift matters most, Federal's Premium 175-grain ELD-X drifts about 12 inches at 500 yards, but it kicks about 34 percent harder.
