Product Overview
Fiocchi markets its Hyperformance 150-grain TTSX for big game. It is loaded with the Barnes TTSX, a polymer-tipped copper hollow point with no lead core, rated at a G1 BC of .424. It leaves the muzzle at 3,100 fps, and at 500 yards it still carries 1,418 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Hornady's Outfitter 160-grain CX, which also uses a copper bullet with no lead core, the TTSX starts 100 fps faster but loses more ground to the wind. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing straight across the range pushes the TTSX about 19 inches sideways and the CX about 14. The CX kicks about 10 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Weatherby's Select Plus 150-grain Swift Scirocco, a bonded, polymer-tipped bullet of the same weight, the TTSX starts 50 fps faster and kicks about the same, but the same wind pushes the Scirocco only about 16 inches at 500 yards.
Buy the TTSX if you need a bullet with no lead and want less recoil than the Outfitter CX gives. Pick the Outfitter CX if you hunt open country where wind matters more than recoil; it also carries 1,804 ft-lbs at 500 yards. Pick the Weatherby Select Plus 150 if a lead-free bullet is not a requirement and you want the same recoil with less wind drift.
