Product Overview
Sako says the PowerHead Blade is mainly for big game hunting, and it also tags the load for medium game. The bullet shares the name and is a copper bullet with no lead core. It carries a G1 BC of .390 and leaves the muzzle at 3,068 fps, a fast start that fades with distance: by 500 yards it has slowed to 1,959 fps.
Compared with Fiocchi's Hyperformance 120-grain TTSX, another copper bullet of the same weight, the Sako is almost a twin at the muzzle, with nearly the same speed and the same recoil in the same rifle. Downrange the TTSX holds on slightly better. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the line of fire pushes the Sako about 22 inches sideways and the TTSX about 20. Compared with Barnes' VOR-TX Long Range 127-grain, the gap is larger: the same wind pushes the Barnes about 18 inches. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Sako drops about 47 inches at 500 and the Barnes about 46. The Barnes kicks about 10 percent harder.
Buy the Sako if you hunt big or medium game at moderate range and want light recoil: it kicks about 22 percent less than Nosler's Ballistic Tip 140-grain in the same rifle. Pick the TTSX if you want the same start with a little less wind drift. Pick the Barnes if your shots stretch toward 500 yards. If you don't need a copper bullet, Federal's Terminal Ascent 130-grain drifts about 16 inches in the same wind at 500 yards.
