Product Overview
Underwood's 325-grain Xtreme Hunter is a hunting load for shooters who want a solid one-piece bullet with no lead core. It leaves the muzzle at 2,030 fps with 2,974 ft-lbs of energy, close to the speed of Hornady's LEVERevolution at the same bullet weight.
Compared with Underwood's +P 325-grain Xtreme Hunter, which carries the same bullet at 2,275 fps, this load starts 245 fps slower and kicks about 11 percent less in the same rifle. Underwood says the +P load is not for antique firearms such as Trapdoor Springfields. Compared with Hornady's 325-grain LEVERevolution, a polymer-tipped bullet with a lead core, the Underwood starts 30 fps faster and carries 88 more ft-lbs at the muzzle, and the two kick almost exactly alike.
Buy this Xtreme Hunter if you want a 325-grain bullet with no lead core at about the speed of the LEVERevolution, without stepping up to +P recoil. Pick the +P version if your rifle is rated for +P loads and you want more speed from the same bullet. Pick the LEVERevolution if you prefer a polymer-tipped bullet that Hornady markets for large game. For a heavier bullet, HSM's 430-grain Bear Load, which HSM markets for big game hunting, starts with 3,098 ft-lbs.
