About This Firearm
The Echelon Alpha 4.0C is the lower-priced way into Springfield's compact Echelon. Springfield calls it the entry point into the modular Echelon system, and at $599 it is aimed at buyers cross-shopping other optic-ready compacts. It keeps the compact Echelon's 4.0-inch hammer-forged barrel, small grip module and optics-ready billet slide.
What you give up is in the box and on the front sight. The standard Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C costs $111 more and adds a tritium/luminescent front sight and a second, extended magazine; the Alpha has a white-dot front and one 15-round stainless magazine. The Ruger RXM is $60 cheaper, weighs 0.8 oz less, and uses a serialized fire control insert that moves between grips, with two Magpul magazines included. The CZ P-10 C is $150 cheaper and 2.0 oz heavier, and the standard P-10 C has no optic cut, so a red dot means a different model or slide work.
Buy the Echelon Alpha 4.0C if you want the Echelon's optic-ready slide and modular chassis and you will add your own night sights or spare magazines later. Skip it if you want the most gun in the box for the money; the RXM ships with two magazines for less.

Does the Echelon Alpha 4.0C have a manual safety?
Springfield's page for the ECA9409B lists no manual safety. Its Echelon manual says only that some Echelon models have one, so check the SKU before you buy if you want a thumb safety.
