About This Firearm

The Glock G26 Gen5 exists for one reason: magazine compatibility. It accepts every Glock 9mm double-stack magazine ever made, from the 15-round G19 mag to the 33-round extended stick. No other subcompact does this. The gun ships with three 10-round magazines, weighs 21.69 oz, and runs a 3.43" barrel in a 6.42" frame. Those numbers put it on the heavy side for a 10-round gun, and the 1.3" width is thicker than slimline alternatives. But if you already carry a G19 or G17 on duty and want a backup that shares your reload, there is no substitute.

The 5.8 lb trigger is the heaviest in Glock's 9mm lineup. The G19 Gen5 runs 5.5 lbs, and the G43X comes in at 5.4 lbs. The S&W Shield Plus pulls at 4.5 lbs. The G26's grip is too short for a full three-finger hold without a magazine extension, which defeats the size advantage. Owners who carry a G19 as their primary report the G26 works best as an ankle rig or glove box gun where the thick grip and heavy weight matter less than interchangeable magazines.

Best For

GOOD
Backup / Off-Body Carry
At 6.42" long and 4.17" tall, it fits ankle holsters and vehicle-mounted rigs. Accepts G17 and G19 magazines as reloads, which means one magazine type across your primary and backup guns.
FAIR
Concealed Carry
The 1.3" width prints more than the 1.1" S&W Shield Plus during appendix carry. The 21.69 oz weight is manageable but heavier than slimline 10-round guns. Works better in outside-the-waistband or ankle setups than appendix.
POOR
Range Training
The short grip forces a two-finger hold on flush-fit 10-round magazines. The 5.8 lb trigger is the heaviest in Glock's 9mm line. Extended range sessions are uncomfortable without a pinky extension or a G19 magazine inserted for a full grip.

Strengths & Limitations

Strengths
  • Accepts all Glock 9mm double-stack magazines, including G17 17-rounders and G19 15-rounders. No other subcompact shares magazines with a full-size duty gun.
  • Ships with 3 magazines versus 2 for most competitors, which gives you a spare from day one.
Limitations
  • The 1.3" width is 0.2" thicker than the S&W Shield Plus at 1.1", and at 21.69 oz it weighs 1.5 oz more for the same 10-round flush-fit capacity. The Shield Plus holds 13 rounds at that same weight.
  • The 5.8 lb trigger is 1.3 lbs heavier than the Shield Plus at 4.5 lbs. Reviewers consistently note it as the least refined trigger in the Gen5 lineup.
  • The short grip only allows a two-finger hold with flush magazines. Most subcompacts with 4.6"+ grip height give a full three-finger grip without extensions.

Frequently Asked Questions

What magazines fit the Glock G26 Gen5?

The G26 Gen5 ships with three 10-round flush-fit magazines. It accepts all Glock 9mm double-stack magazines: G19 15-rounders, G17 17-rounders, G18 33-round extended mags, and aftermarket options from Magpul and ETS. Larger magazines extend below the grip but lock in and feed reliably. Use Gen4 or Gen5 magazines with orange followers for the smoothest function with the ambidextrous mag release.

Is the G26 Gen5 still worth buying now that the G43X exists?

Only if magazine interchangeability matters to you. The G43X weighs 18.7 oz versus the G26's 21.69 oz, measures 1.1" wide versus 1.3", and provides a full three-finger grip. Both hold 10 rounds. The G26 wins only on magazine compatibility with G17 and G19 mags. If you do not already own another Glock, the G43X is the better standalone carry gun.
