The M&P9 M2.0 Metal is the full-size M&P 9mm with the polymer frame replaced by 7075-T6 aluminum, finished in Tungsten Gray Cerakote. It holds 17+1, weighs 30.0 oz, and comes with an optics-cut slide and no thumb safety. The question it answers is whether a metal frame is worth $250 more than the polymer M&P9 you could buy instead.

Against the Smith & Wesson M&P 9 M2.0 Full Size OR, the Metal is 1 oz heavier with the same 4.25-inch barrel. S&W says it takes all full-size M2.0 magazines, slides, holsters and palmswells, so it drops into an existing M&P setup. It also gets an enhanced sear for a lighter, crisper let-off, and steel drift-adjustable sights. The Glock G17 Gen5 MOS is the usual benchmark, with a longer barrel and three magazines in the box. The Metal's case is the frame and the trigger, not capacity or size.

Buy the M&P9 M2.0 Metal if you already run M&Ps, want a metal frame without leaving the platform, and value the upgraded sear. Skip it if you just want a full-size M&P for duty or home defense; the polymer M&P 9 M2.0 Full Size OR does the same job for less.
