How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 4" vital zone, ±2" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 100 yards.

Product Overview

Prvi Partizan's 71-grain jacketed hollow point is loaded to 902 fps and 129 ft-lbs, which puts it at the heavy, slow end of .32 ACP hollow points. The JHP bullet is built to expand on impact. It holds 846 fps and 113 ft-lbs at 50 yards and 798 fps and 100 ft-lbs at 100. Drop from a 25-yard zero is 2.3 inches at 50 yards and 16.3 inches at 100, and those figures are the plain answer to how far a .32 pocket pistol reaches. The brass case is reloadable.

Magtech's JHP of the same weight is the near twin: 905 fps, 129 ft-lbs and the same recoil energy estimate in the reference pistol. The lighter hollow points go faster and kick less. Federal Hydra-Shok 65 leaves at 925 fps with about 13 percent less recoil energy in the same pistol, PMC Bronze 60-grain JHP at 980 fps with about 18 percent less, and Speer Gold Dot 60 at 960 fps with about 21 percent less. Buffalo Bore's 60-grain Barnes TAC-XP goes the other direction: a +P load at 1,150 fps with about 8 percent more recoil energy than the Prvi, and it belongs only in a pistol rated for +P pressure.

Buy the Prvi Partizan for a hollow point at full 71-grain weight whose recoil matches the ball you practice with: PMC Bronze 71 FMJ leaves at 900 fps and its recoil energy is within 1 percent of this load in the same pistol, so a range session with the ball load feels like the carry load. If the pistol is small enough that recoil energy matters more than bullet weight, Black Hills HoneyBadger 50 runs 1,050 fps with about 36 percent less recoil energy than the Prvi, and Speer Gold Dot 60 splits the difference at 960 fps.

Strengths
  • 129 ft-lbs at the muzzle, 6 more than Federal Hydra-Shok 65 or Speer Gold Dot 60 and 1 more than PMC Bronze 60
  • 71-grain bullet is the heaviest hollow point in the set, tied with Magtech
  • Standard pressure, so it needs no +P rating, unlike Buffalo Bore's 60-grain Barnes TAC-XP
  • Brass case is reloadable
Limitations
  • Slowest load in the set at 902 fps, 248 fps behind Buffalo Bore's Barnes TAC-XP and 78 behind PMC Bronze 60
  • The most recoil energy of the standard-pressure hollow points here, tied with Magtech
  • Buffalo Bore's +P Barnes TAC-XP carries 176 ft-lbs at the muzzle, 47 more, for pistols rated for it
