Magtech .32 ACP 71gr JHP Ammo Ballistics
Brass Case • JHP • MPN: 32B
Solved from this product's advertised 905 fps, 71gr bullet and G1 BC 0.134, with the sight 0.5" over the bore at standard conditions. Compare every zero for .32 ACP.
How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 4" vital zone, ±2" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 100 yards.

Product Overview
Magtech's 71-grain jacketed hollow point shares the heaviest bullet in this comparison set with Prvi Partizan's 71-grain JHP, and it is the second-slowest load at the muzzle: 905 fps and 129 ft-lbs. From a 25-yard zero it is 2.3 inches low at 50 yards and 16.0 inches low at 100, a close-range pistol load like every .32 ACP. Recoil energy in the same pistol is about 17 percent more than the two Hornady loads, Critical Defense and Custom XTP.
At the muzzle the Magtech gives up 95 fps to Hornady Critical Defense and Hornady Custom XTP, 65 fps to Silvertip and 20 fps to Federal Hydra-Shok 65. The heavier bullet makes up part of that in energy: 129 ft-lbs against 133 for the Hornady loads, 125 for the Silvertip and 123 for the Hydra-Shok. Prvi Partizan's 71-grain JHP is its near twin at the muzzle and in recoil. Recoil is the trade for the weight: about 24 percent more than the Silvertip and 15 percent more than the Hydra-Shok in the same pistol.
This is the load for a shooter who wants a standard-pressure hollow point that weighs what .32 ACP ball weighs. Anyone who wants the softest recoil should look elsewhere: Black Hills HoneyBadger 50-grain runs 1,050 fps with about 36 percent less recoil energy in the same pistol. For practice, PMC Bronze 71-grain FMJ at 900 fps is the closest ball load, 5 fps slower with about 1 percent less recoil energy in the same pistol.
- 71-grain bullet matches the weight of .32 ACP ball, 11 grains more than Hornady Custom XTP and 6 grains more than Federal Hydra-Shok 65
- 4 ft-lbs more at the muzzle than Silvertip and 6 more than Federal Hydra-Shok 65
- Within 3 fps of Prvi Partizan 71-grain JHP with the same recoil energy, so the two can stand in for each other
- About 9 percent more recoil velocity than the Hornady loads in the same pistol, on top of the recoil energy gap
- Hornady Critical Defense and Custom XTP make 4 ft-lbs more at the muzzle from lighter bullets
- Brass case with no nickel plating, unlike Hornady Critical Defense and Federal Hydra-Shok 65
