How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 4" vital zone, ±2" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 100 yards.

Product Overview

PMC Bronze pushes a 71-grain FMJ to 900 fps for 126 ft-lbs of muzzle energy, the standard-speed end of .32 ACP ball. From a 25-yard zero the bullet is 2.4 inches low at 50 yards and 16.8 inches low at 100, and by 100 yards it has slowed to 777 fps and 95 ft-lbs. Those are close-range pocket-pistol numbers. In the reference pistol its recoil energy ties Federal American Eagle 71 and CCI Blazer 71 for the mildest in this group, and the brass case is reloadable.

Muzzle speed is a near tie across the 71-grain ball loads. American Eagle and Blazer also leave at 900 fps, and Winchester USA 71 leaves at 905 fps with about 1 percent more recoil energy in the same pistol. The separation is downrange. At 50 yards PMC holds 834 fps and 110 ft-lbs against 847 fps and 113 ft-lbs for American Eagle or Blazer, and at 100 yards it drops 0.4 inch more than either. None of that changes a hold at pocket-pistol distances. Fiocchi Range Dynamics 73 is the outlier: 1,000 fps at the muzzle, 100 fps faster than PMC, with about 27 percent more recoil energy in the same pistol.

Buy PMC Bronze for high-volume practice with a .32 pocket pistol when the mildest recoil matters more than a few fps at 50 yards. It also doubles as a practice stand-in for a standard 71-grain carry load: Magtech's 71-grain JHP leaves at 905 fps and its recoil energy is within 1 percent of this load in the same pistol, so drills with PMC feel like the carry round. If you want the fastest ball load for the same gun, Fiocchi Range Dynamics 73 adds 100 fps at the muzzle.

Strengths
  • 900 fps and 126 ft-lbs put it in the mildest tier of .32 ACP ball, level with Federal American Eagle 71 and CCI Blazer 71 for recoil energy in the same pistol
  • Brass case is reloadable, where CCI Blazer 71 uses an aluminum case that is not
  • Drop of 2.4 inches at 50 yards from a 25-yard zero, the same figure as American Eagle 71, Blazer 71 and Winchester USA 71
Limitations
  • Reaches 100 yards at 777 fps and 95 ft-lbs, against 800 fps and 101 ft-lbs for American Eagle 71
  • Published muzzle energy of 126 ft-lbs is 3 ft-lbs under Winchester USA 71 and 2 under American Eagle 71 and Blazer 71
  • Fiocchi Range Dynamics 73 leaves the muzzle at 1,000 fps for shooters who want more speed from the same pistol
  • 16.8 inches of drop at 100 yards from a 25-yard zero, the most in this set; this is a close-range load
