Winchester sells this 40-grain full metal jacket load in its Super-X line, which it pitches at all types of hunters and shooters. A full metal jacket bullet has a solid, fully covered nose and is the usual choice for target shooting and plinking. This one is rated at a G1 BC of .113 and leaves the muzzle at 1,910 fps. Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 6 inches at 150.
Compared with Fiocchi's 40-grain FMJ, which starts at the same 1,910 fps, the Winchester loses speed sooner and is 50 fps slower by 100 yards. At 150 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Winchester about 13 inches sideways and the Fiocchi about 12. Compared with Federal's Champion 40-grain FMJ, the Winchester starts 30 fps faster, and after that the two fly almost the same path: the same wind pushes the Champion about 14 inches at 150 yards, and it drops about 6 there, as the Winchester does.
Buy the Winchester for target shooting and plinking inside 100 yards, where the same wind moves it about 6 inches, no more than the Champion. Pick Fiocchi's 40-grain FMJ if you often shoot at 150 yards and want a little less drift and drop.
