Product Overview
Winchester markets its Super-X 175-grain Power-Point for "whitetail and big game." The Power-Point is Winchester's jacketed soft point, with exposed lead at the nose. It carries a G1 BC of .436 and leaves the muzzle at 2,860 fps.
Compared with Fiocchi's Field Dynamics 175-grain InterLock, the Power-Point is almost a match at the muzzle and in recoil, but the Fiocchi holds slightly better in the wind. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Power-Point about 21 inches sideways and the Fiocchi about 20. Compared with HSM's Trophy Gold 180-grain Berger VLD, the gap is wider. The same wind pushes the HSM only about 13 inches at 500 yards, and zeroed at 100 yards the HSM drops about 47 inches there against about 53 for the Power-Point.
Buy the Power-Point if you want a traditional soft point for the "whitetail and big game" Winchester names, and most of your shots are well inside 500 yards. Federal's 175-grain Power-Shok JSP is an equal swap, with the same 2,860 fps start and the same path downrange. Pick the Fiocchi if you want a touch less drift at the same bullet weight, and the HSM if your shots can stretch toward 500 yards. If recoil bothers you, Norma's EVOSTRIKE 127-grain kicks about 38 percent less, though Norma aims it at "small and medium game."
