Fiocchi aims its Field Dynamics 175-grain load at big game, "deer-sized game and beyond" in Fiocchi's words. It uses a pointed soft point, a jacketed bullet with exposed lead at a sharp nose. It carries a G1 BC of .462 and leaves the muzzle at 2,850 fps.

Compared with Winchester's Super-X 175-grain Power-Point, the Fiocchi is nearly a match at the muzzle and a little steadier in the wind. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Fiocchi about 20 inches sideways and the Power-Point about 21. Compared with Federal's Fusion 175-grain, the Fiocchi starts 90 fps faster and drops slightly less: zeroed at 100 yards, it falls about 52 inches at 500 yards against about 54 for the Fusion. The Fusion is the better of the two in wind, though, and the same wind pushes it about 17 inches.

Buy the Fiocchi if you want a plain soft point for "deer-sized game and beyond" with a little less drift than the Power-Point. Pick the Fusion, which Federal says is "specifically built for deer hunting," if wind at longer range matters more to you than muzzle speed. Pick HSM's Trophy Gold 180-grain Berger VLD if your shots can stretch toward 500 yards; the same wind pushes it about 13 inches there. Shooters who want a lighter, lead-free load can look at Norma's EVOSTRIKE 127-grain, which kicks about 37 percent less; Norma aims it at "small and medium game."
