Remington markets the Core-Lokt Tipped 150-grain for big game. It puts a polymer tip on Remington's Core-Lokt bullet, a jacketed lead-core hunting bullet, and is rated at a G1 BC of .530. It leaves the muzzle at 3,130 fps and still carries 2,248 ft-lbs at 300 yards.
Compared with Remington's Core-Lokt 150-grain PSP, the plain soft point version, the Tipped starts 20 fps faster and kicks the same in the same rifle. The difference shows at distance: at 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Tipped about 15 inches sideways and the PSP about 25. Compared with Winchester's Ballistic Silvertip 150-grain, another polymer-tipped hunting bullet, the Core-Lokt Tipped holds a small edge. It starts 30 fps faster, and zeroed at 100 yards it drops about 40 inches at 500 against about 42 for the Silvertip.
Buy the Core-Lokt Tipped if you hunt big game and want a lead-core bullet that holds up in wind at longer range. Pick the Core-Lokt PSP if your shots stay close and you would rather have an exposed lead soft point with the same recoil. Pick the Ballistic Silvertip if you prefer Winchester's tipped bullet; Winchester also markets it for big game, and it trails the Tipped only slightly. If you want a bonded soft point, Federal's Fusion 150-grain starts 80 fps slower, and Federal says it is "specifically built for deer hunting."
