Product Overview
Hornady Precision Hunter 162-grain ELD-X is a polymer-tipped 7mm Remington Magnum load made for large game. The ELD-X is a hunting bullet with a lead core under its tip. It leaves the muzzle at 2,940 fps with 3,110 ft-lbs and has the highest G1 BC of the caliber's 160- to 165-grain loads at .631.
Zeroed at 200 yards, it drops 6.5 inches at 300 yards and 18.4 inches at 400 yards, arriving with 2,024 ft-lbs. From a 100-yard zero the drop at 400 yards is 24.4 inches. It kicks a shade less than Hornady's Superformance 162-grain SST.
If you're cross-shopping, Hornady's Superformance 162-grain SST starts 90 fps faster on a G1 BC of .550 and from a 200-yard zero drops 17.9 inches at 400 yards. Federal's Vital-Shok 160-grain Trophy Bonded Tip has a bonded lead core and from that zero drops 20.0 inches at 400 yards.
- Still moving at 2,372 fps at 400 yards
- A higher G1 BC than Federal's 160-grain Nosler Partition at .475
- Carries 2,262 ft-lbs at 300 yards
- A lead core, so it is out where lead-free ammunition is required. Federal's 160-grain Barnes TSX is the copper bullet at this weight
- 192 ft-lbs less at the muzzle than Hornady's Superformance 162-grain SST
- A 162-grain bullet in a magnum case, so it kicks harder than every lighter load in the caliber
