Product Overview
Federal markets its 150-grain Trophy Copper for a "wide range of medium and big game." The Trophy Copper is a polymer-tipped copper bullet with no lead core. Federal rates it at a G1 BC of .498, and it leaves the muzzle at 3,025 fps. At 300 yards it still carries 2,038 ft-lbs.
Compared with Remington's Core-Lokt Tipped 150-grain, a polymer-tipped lead-core bullet, the Trophy Copper starts 105 fps slower and trails it all the way to 500 yards. Zeroed at 100 yards, the Trophy Copper drops about 44 inches at 500 and the Core-Lokt Tipped about 40. At 500 yards a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Trophy Copper about 17 inches sideways and the Core-Lokt Tipped about 15. That is how far from the aim point each bullet lands if you make no correction. The Core-Lokt Tipped also kicks about 4 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Federal's Fusion 150-grain, a bonded soft point with a lead core, the two are close: the Fusion starts at nearly the same speed, and the same wind pushes it about 16 inches.
Buy the Trophy Copper if you want a copper bullet with no lead core. Pick the Core-Lokt Tipped 150-grain if a lead core is fine and you want less drop and drift at long range; Remington markets it for big game. Pick the Fusion 150-grain if you want a bonded lead-core bullet on nearly the same path; Federal says it is "specifically built for deer hunting." Remington's Core-Lokt 150-grain PSP suits closer shots only: the same 500-yard wind pushes it about 25 inches.
- A copper bullet with no lead core; Federal's Fusion 150-grain has a lead core
- Carries 2,038 ft-lbs at 300 yards, 241 more than Remington's Core-Lokt 150-grain PSP
- Kicks about 3 percent less than Winchester's Ballistic Silvertip 150-grain in the same rifle
- Starts 65 fps slower than Winchester's Super-X 150-grain Power-Point, 3,025 fps against 3,090
- Zeroed at 100 yards, it drops about 24 inches at 400; the Ballistic Silvertip 150-grain about 23
- The Core-Lokt Tipped 150-grain carries 210 ft-lbs more at 300 yards: 2,248 against 2,038
