Barnes markets the VOR-TX 120-grain TTSX for hunting big game and medium game, and it is the 7mm-08 load for hunters who want a bullet made without lead. The TTSX is a polymer-tipped copper bullet with no lead core. It is rated at a G1 BC of .373 and leaves the muzzle at 3,005 fps. Zeroed at 200 yards, it is about 7 inches low at 300.
Compared with Federal's Fusion 120, the TTSX starts at the same speed and kicks the same in the same rifle, but it holds up a little better in wind. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the TTSX about 24 inches sideways and the Fusion about 27. That is how far from your aiming point the bullet lands if you make no allowance for the wind. Compared with Hornady's 150-grain Precision Hunter ELD-X, the TTSX leaves the muzzle 235 fps faster, yet the two drop about the same: zeroed at 200 yards, both are about 43 inches low at 500. The heavier Hornady bullet drifts less in the same wind, about 16 inches at 500 yards, and kicks about 43 percent harder in the same rifle.
Buy the TTSX if you want a copper bullet with no lead core and the light recoil of a 120-grain load. Pick the Fusion 120 if you would rather shoot a lead-core bullet; Federal built the Fusion for deer hunting, and it matches the TTSX at the muzzle. Pick the Precision Hunter, which Hornady markets for large game, if your shots run long in wind and the extra recoil does not bother you. Winchester's Ballistic Silvertip 140 sits between them in bullet weight and kicks about 24 percent more than the TTSX.
