The Barnes VOR-TX 120gr TTSX is a lead-free hunting load that California hunters can use legally. The all-copper bullet exits the muzzle at 3005 fps and hits flat out to 300 yards. At 120 grains, it's on the light side for 7mm-08, which keeps recoil mild and velocity high.
Copper bullets penetrate deeper than lead-core designs because they hold together on impact. The TTSX expands into four sharp petals that cut wound channels through muscle and bone. This makes it effective on deer, hogs, and black bear despite the lighter bullet weight. Hunters in non-lead states rely on this load for everything from antelope to elk.
The flat trajectory suits hunters who shoot across open country. Zeroed at 200 yards, you're only 7 inches low at 300. The boat-tail design and polymer tip give it better BC than older Barnes X bullets, though it still can't match heavier conventional bullets at extreme range.
