HSM markets its Tipping Point 95-grain SST for hunting small to medium-sized game and for target shooting. The bullet is Hornady's SST, a polymer-tipped hunting bullet. HSM loads it to leave the muzzle at 3,016 fps with 1,918 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Hornady's Precision Hunter 103-grain ELD-X, the Tipping Point trades 8 grains of bullet weight for speed. It leaves the muzzle 216 fps faster with 125 ft-lbs more energy, and it kicks about 8 percent less in the same rifle. Compared with HSM's own Trophy Gold 95-grain Berger VLD, the Tipping Point carries the same bullet weight but starts 116 fps faster, with 144 ft-lbs more energy at the muzzle. The Trophy Gold kicks about 4 percent less, so the extra speed comes with slightly more recoil.
Buy the Tipping Point if you hunt small to medium-sized game and want more speed and muzzle energy than either the Precision Hunter or the Trophy Gold gives.
