Fiocchi markets its Hyperformance Match 140-grain for competition and target shooting. It is loaded with Nosler's RDF, a hollow point match bullet with a boat tail. Fiocchi rates it at a G1 BC of .658, and it leaves the muzzle at 2,980 fps.

Compared with Hornady's 147-grain ELD Match, the Fiocchi starts 70 fps faster and shoots a little flatter: zeroed at 100 yards, the Fiocchi drops about 42 inches at 500 and the Hornady about 44. The Hornady kicks about 7 percent harder in the same rifle. Compared with Norma's Golden Target 143-grain, the Fiocchi is nearly a twin at the muzzle, just 6 fps slower, and the Norma drops the same at 500. The difference is in the wind. At 500 yards, a steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the Fiocchi about 12 inches sideways and the Norma about 13; that is how far off your aim point the wind alone moves the bullet. The Norma also kicks about 5 percent harder.

Buy the Fiocchi 140 if you shoot steel and paper out to 500 yards and want a flat, fast match load with the lightest recoil of the 6.5 PRC match loads. Pick the Hornady 147 if you want the heaviest match bullet and don't mind the extra recoil. Pick the Norma 143 if you want a heavier bullet at the same speed. The RDF is a target bullet. For hunting at the same weight, Nosler markets its Ballistic Tip 140-grain for elk- and moose-sized game; it carries a polymer-tipped hunting bullet and leaves the muzzle 80 fps slower.
