Winchester's Match 250-grain is built for rifle competition; Winchester markets its Match ammunition to serious rifle competitors. Its bullet is a match hollow point with a boat tail, and the load leaves the muzzle at 2,900 fps with 4,670 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Federal's Gold Medal Match 250-grain, the Winchester starts 50 fps slower and carries 163 ft-lbs less energy at the muzzle. In return it kicks about 2 percent less in the same rifle, a very small difference. Compared with Hornady's Match 250-grain BTHP, the Winchester is the faster of the two: it starts 40 fps quicker with 130 ft-lbs more energy at the muzzle. The Hornady kicks a little less.
