Norma's Match 250-grain is a match load for target shooting, built on Sierra's MatchKing, a match hollow point with a boat tail. It leaves the muzzle at 2,950 fps with 4,833 ft-lbs of energy, one of the quicker starts for a 250-grain match load.
Compared with Federal's Gold Medal Match 250-grain, the Norma starts at the same 2,950 fps with the same muzzle energy, and the two kick the same in the same rifle. Compared with Hornady's Match 250-grain BTHP, the Norma starts 90 fps faster and carries 293 ft-lbs more energy at the muzzle. That extra speed comes with a little more recoil; the Hornady kicks a little less in the same rifle.
Buy the Norma if you want a MatchKing load with one of the fastest starts at 250 grains. Pick the Federal if you want a load its maker markets for competition, long-range and target shooting. Pick the Hornady if you want the lightest recoil at this bullet weight.
