Sellier & Bellot markets its 200-grain Subsonic FMJ for range and match shooting. The full metal jacket bullet is a plain range bullet with no tip or hollow point. It leaves the muzzle at 1,060 fps, under the speed of sound, with a G1 BC of .558.

Compared with Winchester's Super Suppressed 200-grain Open Tip, the S&B matches it in bullet weight and at the muzzle but gives up a little less to gravity and wind. Zeroed at 100 yards, the S&B drops about 32 inches at 200 yards and the Winchester about 33. A steady 10 mph wind blowing across the range pushes the S&B about 4 inches sideways by 200 yards and the Winchester about 5. Compared with Hornady's Black 208-grain ELD Match, the S&B starts 40 fps faster. The ELD Match carries the higher G1 BC at .648, but at 200 yards it drops about 34 inches, and the same wind pushes both loads about 4 inches.

Buy the S&B if you shoot subsonic loads at the range or in matches and want a little less drop at 200 yards than the Winchester or the ELD Match. Pick the Winchester if you shoot a suppressed rifle and want the load Winchester built for one; it flies almost the same path. Pick the ELD Match if you want Hornady's polymer-tipped match bullet in a subsonic load. Pick Hornady's 190-grain Sub-X if you need an expanding bullet; Hornady markets it for personal defense. For hunting, where staying subsonic does not matter, Federal's 150-grain Power-Shok is the load Federal markets for big game.
