Winchester's Power Max Bonded 150-grain gives a .30-30 hunter a bonded bullet at the common 150-grain weight. Winchester calls the bullet a Protected Hollow Point: a hollow point whose lead core is bonded to its copper jacket. It leaves the muzzle at 2,390 fps with 1,902 ft-lbs of energy.
Compared with Winchester's 150-grain Power-Point, a plain soft point with exposed lead at the nose and no bonded core, the Power Max Bonded is a match at the muzzle: the same 2,390 fps, the same 1,902 ft-lbs and the same recoil in the same rifle. The choice between them comes down to the bullet, not the numbers. Compared with Winchester's Ballistic Silvertip 150-grain, a polymer-tipped bullet with a boat-tail base, it is the same story. Both start at 2,390 fps and kick the same, so what you are choosing is a bonded hollow point or a polymer tip.
Buy the Power Max Bonded if you want a bonded bullet in a 150-grain .30-30 load. Pick the Super-X 150-grain Power-Point, which Winchester markets for whitetail and big game, if a plain soft point suits you. Pick the Ballistic Silvertip, which Winchester markets for big game, if you want a polymer tip. Pick Buffalo Bore's Heavy 190-grain JFN only for elk- or moose-sized game, which Buffalo Bore markets it for; it starts 290 fps slower and kicks about 41 percent harder than the Power Max Bonded in the same rifle.
