About This Firearm
The G19 Gen6 is the compact 9mm of Glock's Gen6 line, announced in December 2025. It keeps the G19 size that carry holsters are built around, holds 15 rounds, and ships ready for a red dot. At 22.58 oz with an empty magazine, it is the pistol to look at if you want one G19 for carry, home and range with a dot on top.
The changes are in the grip, trigger and optic mount. The frame gets a palm swell, thumb rest, enlarged beavertail and new grip texture; the trigger has a flat face; and Glock includes three optic plates that let the optic screw directly into the slide. The Glock G19 V has the same length and height and keeps the Gen5 grip shape, but Glock lists no optic system for it; it weighs 1.05 oz more. The Glock G19 Gen5 MOS weighs 1.23 oz more and mounts optics through adapter plates. The Walther PDP Compact matches the capacity and adds an optic cut too, but it weighs 24.4 oz and has a longer 7.5-inch overall length.
Buy the G19 Gen6 if you carry a G19-size gun with a red dot and want the new grip and a direct-to-slide optic mount. Skip it if you shoot iron sights and like the Gen5 grip; the G19 V is the same size and set up for irons.

- The palm swell and thumb rest give a better-indexed grip than earlier G19 frames without aftermarket texture work.
- Gen5 G19 holsters fit, so upgrading does not mean replacing your carry rig.
- The thumb rest can rub in tight-molded holsters, so test the draw before carrying in an old one.
- The barrel, striker assembly, extractor parts and recoil spring assembly are Gen6-specific, so Gen5 spare parts and drop-in upgrades do not carry over.

What red dots fit the G19 Gen6?
Glock includes three optic plates and says they let various optics screw directly into the slide. Its Gen6 page does not list which footprint each plate fits, so check the plate against your dot before you buy.
Should I buy the G19 Gen6 or the G19 V?
