About This Firearm
The G17 Gen6 is Glock's full-size 9mm on the Gen6 frame, announced in December 2025 alongside the G19 and G45 Gen6. It holds 17 rounds behind a 4.49-inch barrel and ships with a factory optic cut. The decision it answers is simple: you want a full-size 9mm for the nightstand, the range or a duty belt, and you are choosing between this, the G17 V with the same slide length, and a Walther.
Gen6 changes the parts your hands touch. The frame gets a palm swell, a thumb rest, an enlarged beavertail and RTF6 texture, and the trigger shoe is flat-faced. Glock ships three optic plates and says optics screw directly into the slide, rather than onto the MOS system's adapter plates. The Glock G17 V shares the length and height and has a flared magwell and an ambidextrous slide stop, but Glock lists no optic system for it. The Glock G17 Gen5 MOS keeps the Gen5 grip and mounts optics through the stacked MOS adapter plates. The Walther PDP Full Size holds 18 and lists a 5.6 lb trigger pull against the Glock's 5.8 lb.
Buy the G17 Gen6 if you plan to run a red dot on a full-size Glock and want the grip shaped at the factory rather than by a stippling shop. Skip it if you shoot with iron sights and like the Gen5 grip; the G17 V gives you the same capacity without paying for an optic system you won't use.
