The Glock G17 Gen6 is a full-size striker-fired 9mm built for duty and home defense. Glock launched the sixth generation at SHOT Show in January 2026. Its grip has a palm swell, a textured thumb rest, an enlarged beavertail and an undercut trigger guard, which together move where the hand sits.

It holds 17 rounds on a 4.49-inch barrel, the outside dimensions are the ones G17 holsters have always been cut for, and it weighs 23.99 oz with an empty magazine. Three optic plates come in the set, and Glock states they let an optic screw directly into the slide. The trigger face is flat and breaks at 5.8 lbs, the RTF6 texture covers more of the frame than before and runs onto the thumb rest, and the slide serrations are cut at a steeper angle. There is no manual safety, just the three passive internal safeties that release in sequence as the trigger moves.

If you're cross-shopping, the Glock G17 V is the same size at 23.63 oz with no optic system listed, and it adds a flared magazine well and a cutout at the front of the frame for faster reloads. The Glock G17 Gen5 MOS is the previous optics-ready full-size Glock and keeps the older grip, with the dot sitting on an adapter plate above the slide instead of screwing into it.
