About This Firearm
The FN 509 Tactical ships with three 24-round magazines. That is the highest capacity of any production full-size 9mm available off the shelf: 24+1 rounds before a reload. The 4.5" threaded barrel (1/2x28), suppressor-height night sights, and optic-ready slide handle everything a suppressor host needs with no modifications required. FN's cold hammer-forged stainless barrel and FNC slide coating carry over from the base 509.
The 509 Tactical solves a problem most manufacturers create when they enter the suppressor market. Many optic-ready guns ship with standard-height sights that vanish behind a mounted can. The Beretta APX A1 is optic-ready but needs taller sights for suppressor use. The Glock G17 Gen5 MOS requires both a threaded barrel and suppressor-height sights to run a can. The FN is complete from the factory. At 27.9 oz and 7.9" overall with the threaded barrel, the gun is big. Holster selection narrows with a threaded barrel extending past the muzzle.
Buy the 509 Tactical if you already own a suppressor or have one in NFA jail. The three 24-round magazines, factory threaded barrel, and suppressor-height sights represent a genuine package that would take hundreds in aftermarket parts to replicate on other platforms. Skip it if you have no suppressor plans. The base FN 509 or a Walther PDP gets you into the same caliber with fewer features you will never use, and the Canik METE SFT offers 18 rounds with a better trigger for less.

Strengths & Limitations
- 24-round magazines are the highest capacity available in a production full-size 9mm, and three ship in the box instead of the usual two
- Complete suppressor package from the factory: 1/2x28 threaded barrel, suppressor-height night sights, and optic-ready slide with co-witness capability. No aftermarket work needed.
- The 7.9" overall length with threaded barrel makes it one of the longest full-size 9mms available. Holster options are limited to suppressor-compatible models.
- The 5.5 lb trigger is the same unit from the base 509 and does not improve despite the higher tier. The Beretta APX A1 and Canik METE SFT both offer crisper factory triggers.
- All suppressor features are wasted if you do not own or plan to buy a can. The base FN 509 delivers the same core gun with a shorter barrel and lower weight.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do the 24-round magazines work in other FN 509 models?
Yes. The 24-round extended magazines fit all FN 509 variants including the base 509, 509 Compact, and 509 Midsize. They extend well below the grip on compact models but are fully functional. Standard 17-round magazines from the base 509 also work in the Tactical. The entire 509 family shares the same magazine platform.
Which suppressors fit the FN 509 Tactical?
Any 9mm suppressor with 1/2x28 thread pitch mounts directly. That includes most pistol cans from SilencerCo, Dead Air, Rugged, and CGS. The suppressor-height sights clear standard-diameter suppressors for iron sight backup. No piston swap or adapter is needed since the 509 uses a tilting barrel lockup, not a fixed barrel.
