Frame size and barrel length decide how these revolvers carry and shoot. Small-frame snubs like the Ruger LCRx are light for carry but recoil hard with full magnum loads, while medium frames with 4-inch barrels such as the S&W Model 686 tame recoil and suit the range, woods and home. Every .357 Magnum revolver also fires .38 Special, which is cheaper for practice and softer for carry.
