About This Firearm
Eight rounds. That number is the entire reason the TRR8 exists. Built on S&W's large N-Frame in scandium alloy, this Performance Center revolver holds 8 rounds of .357 Mag in a package that weighs 35.2 oz. That is lighter than the 6-round L-Frame 686 (40.3 oz) and the 6-round Ruger GP100 (40 oz), despite holding 2 more rounds than either. The scandium alloy frame is the reason: it shaves significant weight off what would otherwise be a very heavy gun.
The TRR8 was designed for tactical and competition use. It ships with Picatinny rails on the barrel shroud and under the frame for lights and optics. Moon clips come in the box for fast reloads. The 5" barrel with a 2.3 lb single-action pull is tuned by the Performance Center, and reviewers consistently rank the trigger among the best production revolver triggers available. The interchangeable front sight and adjustable V-notch rear are practical for different shooting distances.
This is a specialized gun. The N-Frame dimensions put it at 10.5" overall length and 1.7" wide, which makes it physically larger than every L-Frame and K-Frame revolver. Concealment is out of the question. If you want 8 rounds of .357 Mag for competition, home defense with a weapon light, or a nightstand gun with maximum capacity, the TRR8 has no direct competitor. If your hand cannot wrap around an N-Frame, handle one before ordering. Practice loading the moon clips before you rely on them: the technique takes some repetition to get smooth.
Best For
Strengths & Limitations
- Highest capacity production .357 Mag revolver at 8 rounds. The next closest is the S&W 686 Plus at 7.
- The 2.3 lb SA trigger is Performance Center tuned. Reviewers consistently call it one of the best production revolver triggers made.
- The N-Frame is physically large. At 10.5" overall and 1.7" wide, it requires large hands for a comfortable grip and will not fit in most revolver holsters without a custom order.
- Moon clips are the only way to load all 8 chambers at once. Without them, you load one round at a time. The clips bend if handled roughly, so carry spares.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the TRR8 be loaded without moon clips?
Yes, but one round at a time. The chambers are cut for moon clips, so individual rounds will drop in and fire normally. They just will not eject cleanly with the ejector star because the case rims are not held by anything. Keep spare moon clips on hand. They are inexpensive and the reload speed advantage is the whole point of this gun.
What optics mount on the TRR8 barrel rail?
Any Picatinny-compatible red dot or reflex sight. Popular choices include the Holosun 507C, Trijicon RMR, and Aimpoint Micro. The top rail is long enough for a compact red dot with room to spare. Some competition shooters run a C-More or similar open reflex sight.
