How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 4" vital zone, ±2" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 100 yards.

Product Overview

Fiocchi's 200-grain semi-jacketed hollow point is a defensive bullet, loaded here to 900 fps and 360 ft-lbs. Power factor is 180, 15 points over the 165 major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 2.3 inches at 50 yards and 16.0 inches at 100, and it is still moving 816 fps at the 100-yard mark.

It sits in the middle of the 200-grain group. Federal Champion 200 LSWCHP is 30 fps slower and produces about 5 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver. CCI Blazer 200 goes the other way, 20 fps faster for about 4 percent more recoil. DoubleTap 200 TAC-XP is the hot one, starting 100 fps ahead with about 19 percent more recoil. The 180-grain loads split in two directions. PMC Bronze 180 is 80 fps faster yet kicks about 7 percent less, because its bullet is lighter, while Federal Personal Defense 180-grain is 85 fps slower and produces about 31 percent less recoil. Among the 200-grain choices, the Fiocchi gives up a little speed to the Blazer and the DoubleTap and gains a little comfort in return.

It fits a shooter who wants a full 200-grain hollow point with a comfortable margin over the major floor and less recoil than the Blazer or the DoubleTap. Shooters who want similar recoil with more speed should look at PMC Bronze 180. For a light revolver, Black Hills HoneyBadger 125 is the softer route, with about 34 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.

Strengths
  • Power factor 33 points higher than Federal Personal Defense 180-grain, which scores minor
  • 24 ft-lbs more muzzle energy than Federal Champion 200 LSWCHP at the same bullet weight
  • Keeps 325 ft-lbs of energy at 50 yards
Limitations
  • 24 ft-lbs less muzzle energy than PMC Bronze 180 despite a bullet 20 grains heavier
  • Power factor sits 4 points under CCI Blazer 200 and 20 under DoubleTap 200 TAC-XP
  • 84 ft-lbs less muzzle energy than DoubleTap 200 TAC-XP
