How to read it: filled circles are the near and far zero, where the bullet's path crosses the line of sight;the triangle is the peak (max ordinate). The shaded band is the 4" vital zone, ±2" either side of the line of sight. The dashed line marks the edge of the hold-dead-on window. The chart is zoomed to where the zero matters; the tables below run to 100 yards.

Product Overview

CCI's Blazer load fires a 200-grain jacketed hollow point, a defensive bullet, at 920 fps with 376 ft-lbs. Power factor is 184, 19 points over the 165 major floor. From a 25-yard zero it drops 2.2 inches at 50 yards and 15.4 inches at 100. The case is aluminum, so it cannot be reloaded.

Among the 200-grain loads it is the faster of the two middle options. Fiocchi 200 SJHP is 20 fps slower and kicks about 4 percent less in the same revolver, and Federal Champion 200 LSWCHP gives up 50 fps and about 9 percent of the recoil energy. DoubleTap 200 TAC-XP is 80 fps faster and produces about 15 percent more recoil energy. PMC Bronze 180 is the useful cross-check: 60 fps faster but only 8 ft-lbs stronger at the muzzle, with about 10 percent less recoil because its bullet is 20 grains lighter. Federal Personal Defense 180-grain is far milder, 105 fps slower with about 34 percent less recoil. The Blazer carries more bullet than the PMC and more speed than the other 200s except the DoubleTap.

Buy it if you want a full-weight hollow point with a wide margin over the major floor and do not reload. Handloaders should pick Fiocchi 200 SJHP, which uses a brass case and gives up only 16 ft-lbs. Shooters carrying a light revolver should look at Black Hills HoneyBadger 125, with about 37 percent less recoil energy in the same revolver.

Strengths
  • Power factor 10 points higher than Federal Champion 200 LSWCHP
  • 111 ft-lbs more muzzle energy than Federal Personal Defense 180-grain
  • Keeps 337 ft-lbs of energy at 50 yards
Limitations
  • Aluminum case is single-use, while Federal Champion 200 LSWCHP and PMC Bronze 180 use reloadable brass
  • 68 ft-lbs less muzzle energy than DoubleTap 200 TAC-XP
  • Recoil energy is higher than every load in the group except DoubleTap 200 TAC-XP
